Belah Community Centre is approximately 43 years old.
However the building was built in March 1951 and was originally used as a Baptist Church, the Baptist pool itself still actually exists under the floor of the main hall. The building was purchased by the local City Council in 1964 for £5,000 and was opened as a Communty Centre.
The centre was extended one year later when the old Planning Office hut was attached to the original building. Meant to be a temporary solution to house the Youth Club, 41 years on, it's still in place.
New images coming soon... Belah is undergoing a massive re-development courtesy of grants from the Carlisle City Council and Carlisle Housing Association. They are temporarily housed in the now closed Belah Primary School while the developments are undertaken and will move back into their revitalised accomodation in December 2008.
